Morning Moon

The moon touches an arm of Mount Olympus just before it sets in the west on the morning after Valentines's Day.

The Greens of Winter

In the middle of January, my eyes welcome the glorious fluorescent green of moss on a rock.

Our Weather Station

One of the gifts of Christmas 2013 to ourselves  was a weather station.  It has a rain gauge, determines wind speed, temperature and humidity inside and out, moon phase, date, time, and more.  So when I say the wind is gusting at 20 to 30 mph, you will know that I am not guessing.  There is a computer screen mounted in the kitchen and the information beamed in--no wires needed.

This is a close-up of the spinners that measure wind speed and direction.

Fly Little Bird

The month of August is energized by the antics of fledgling birds such as this robin sporting his spots and enjoying the view from the arm of an Adirondack chair.

It really is Music Mountain...

Erik Johansson sings and plays guitar on the Lunna's porch while his wife Alysoun, R and L  listen and libate--is there really such a word as libate?   If turning a noun into a verb is allowed, then there is such a word and if not, there should be because I love LL alliterations : )

If LL is taking the picture, any guesses as to the whereabouts of Mr. Lunna?  Another trip to the cellar perhaps?

Winter residents

When some birds fly south for the winter, their destination is here on Music Mountain in Vermont.  This Common Redpoll is one such visitor from the arctic.   She is just one of a large flock of possibly a hundred birds.  They are daily visitors to  the feeders, the birch tree and the cedar hedge.

How many days 'til ...................?

Every year when my Christmas Cactus starts to bloom at just the right time, I wonder "How does it know?"
